Getting to Savoy
Savoy is the last Fannin County town before Bells and the Grayson County line. SH 56 runs through the middle of town as Hayes Street, with US 82 along the north side. From the courthouse square in Bonham it's about 12 miles straight west on SH 56, under 20 minutes.
Col. William Savoy founded the town around 1863, and a tornado in May 1880 killed 11 people and nearly wiped it out. We also work the country around it, toward Ector, Ravenna and Whitewright. More towns are on our Fannin County service area page.
Water, sewer and septic around Savoy
City water from shallower wells
The city pumps its own water from two wells in the Woodbine sand. State well records put the town's wells at about 530 to 780 feet, far shallower than the wells in Leonard or Trenton, which go down 1,500 feet and more.
The rural water district next door
Southwest Fannin County SUD keeps its office on SH 56 in Savoy, and its lines surround town on the north, east and south. It serves about 9,200 people in Fannin and Grayson counties from Woodbine wells.
City sewer
The city runs its own sewer system and a treatment plant on Cedar Street, so houses inside the city limits are generally on city sewer.
Septic past the city limits
Fannin County's environmental office in Bonham permits septic systems outside town, and nearly every new system in the county is a spray system: 255 of 269 in 2025.
Mid-century houses on heavy clay
By Census estimates, the median home in Savoy dates to about 1968, older than in Leonard, Trenton, Whitewright or Honey Grove. More than a fifth of the homes went up in the 1950s alone, and about half before 1970. Houses from those years usually have cast iron drains, and many have galvanized water lines that narrow with rust over the decades.
The ground is heavy clay. The soil map puts Burleson clay under the middle of town and Vertel clay to the west and north, and both crack when they dry out and swell when they're wet. That seasonal movement is hard on buried sewer and water lines.

Is the city water soft too?
We don't know for sure, because the city's water report doesn't list hardness. The city wells draw from the same Woodbine sand as the SUD's, so a cheap test strip is worth it before anyone sells you a softener.
Was Savoy under a boil order in the 2021 freeze?

What goes wrong most in Savoy houses?
Mostly slow drains and worn-out galvanized water lines in the older houses, and water heaters. If the water runs brown after the pipes sit overnight, or the pressure keeps dropping, old galvanized pipe is the usual suspect.
